COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The NAACP invites everyone to join its 20th Annual Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 14 from Noon to 5 p.m. at Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park—live music, food vendors, games and free health tests will honor the end of slavery and engage the community in this important celebration.  KTTC
  • On Monday, golfers took part in the 47th Annual Swing Your Birdie Golf Classic at Somerby Golf Club in Byron — the event raised funds for Ronald McDonald House Charities Midwest that gives families lodging and essential services in Rochester. The competition began with a shotgun start and continued with an auction, raffle and celebration after the final putt.  KTTC

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Olmsted County is accepting applications for eight cannabis microbusiness licenses until 5 p.m. on June 20, and if more than eight complete applications are received a public lottery — managed by county elections staff — will select the winners while applicants must pay a $100 fee, pass a background check, and secure a business location with three alternates chosen if needed.  KIMT

CRIME NEWS

  • A Rochester woman, 49-year-old Buffy Jo Bathke, was sentenced on Monday to five years probation and ordered to pay over $16,500 in restitution for exploiting a vulnerable adult she cared for + she was previously convicted for similar financial theft in 2023 + making this her second offense.  KROC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Camp Invention returns to Gibbs Elementary School starting June 23 for students in grades K-6 with sessions running from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Local educators lead hands-on activities that promote STEM learning and boost creativity — offering a nationally recognized program for innovation.  KTTC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Officer Al Arzola—who has served as a middle school resource officer since 2019—was named the Minnesota Juvenile Officer of the Year by the Minnesota Juvenile Officer’s Association on Monday. The award recognizes his positive impact on young people in our community.  KTTC
