COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Dorothy Day Hospitality House in Rochester is seeking an overnight staff member to support community members in crisis—covering three nights every other week with free room and board provided—and welcomes applicants with no prior experience.  KIMT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Sky Zone, a family-friendly indoor trampoline park, has been announced to open in the old Herberger’s space at Apache Mall in Rochester. Construction will begin in 2026 — the park is set to open before the end of 2026.  KROC-AM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Minnesota Rochester announced its growth plans at its 2025 State of the Campus on Nov. 11, showing freshman enrollment grew by 80% to 1,122 students and that new facilities, academic programs, and staff will be expanded if funding is secured. The school will expand its Biomedical Health program and add a Mental Health and Well Being concentration for fall 2026—plans that depend on finding investors and construction bids.  KIMT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Minnesota deer hunters bagged nearly 82,000 deer statewide after the first weekend of the firearms season. In central areas, 10,560 deer were taken across five permit spaces — and the season will continue until a half-hour past sunset on November 23.  KROC-AM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The latest state report showed Minnesota had 295,703 veterans in 2024, with nearly 100,000 who served in Vietnam and under 2,500 from World War II — veterans made up about 5% of the state’s population — while Olmsted County had 8,088 veterans and Houston County had the fewest.  KTTC
  • The Minnesota Department of Transportation announced that a detour near Rochester will end by Friday, Nov. 14 — crews will install signs and smooth gravel along Hwy. 52 — after months of traffic being redirected for a $27.5 million highway project. Southbound motorists will continue using a new onramp for eastbound I-90 while work on demolishing the old ramp and preparing for the next phase remains ongoing.  KROC-AM

  • Marshall Behrens has been named the new director of the Rochester Sports Foundation as Ed Hruska will retire at year end. He brings 25 years of sports experience and a role at Mayo Clinic — his goal is to strengthen local partnerships and secure funding to grow new facilities.  KTTC
