CULTURE NEWS

  • Y-105FM is hosting an app-only contest that gives fans a chance to win a pair of tickets to see Grammy-nominated pianist Jim Brickman live at the Mayo Civic Center on December 10th—contest entries run from November 10th until November 14th when winners will be announced on-air.  KROC-AM
  • Minnesotans prepare to share their unique Thanksgiving tradition by using local phrases—such as uff da and hotdish—as they gather with family and friends to celebrate the holiday with a touch of regional humor.  KROC-AM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • John Carlson, the Chief Administrative Officer for Rochester Public Schools, is leaving after a 14-year tenure to become Director of Finance at Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union, effective at the end of this month—he helped the district achieve six flawless external audits and launch new budget and transportation models. The district has begun searching for a new administrator to lead its operational and administrative departments.  KROC-AM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Minnesota Public Utilities Commission will hold two informational sessions on November 19 at 125 Live—adjacent to the Rochester Recreation Center—to gather public comments on Ranger Power’s proposed Lemon Hill Solar Project. The 180-megawatt project is set to cover about 1,945 acres and connect to a Dairyland Power Cooperative substation with a 161-kilovolt transmission line.  KROC-AM

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • The city is reviewing a request to rezone land for a new apartment project proposed by Enclave on 13 parcels east of the Mayo Civic Center across the Zumbro River. The four to seven story complex is expected to offer up to 215 market rate units, and city staff recommends approval+the developer will submit final plans later.  KROC-AM
