ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Cheryl Burt lost her two sons to carbon monoxide poisoning in January 1996 in a Kimball home and now champions the Nicholas and Zachary Burt Memorial Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Prevention Act that funds free alarms in cities including Rochester—an effort aimed at preventing similar tragedies.  KROC-AM

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hormel Foods said it will cut 250 corporate and sales positions as part of a restructuring to align resources with its strategic goals. The plan includes a voluntary early retirement program and will not fill open positions, with restructuring costs estimated at $20 million to $25 million through the first quarter of fiscal year 2026 — company officials said.  KROC

  • A Google trends study by Yay Coloring Pages shows that Minnesota's most popular donut is the old-fashioned donut, while the national favorite is the glazed donut, and National Donut Day is celebrated today (a perfect reminder to treat yourself).  KROC-AM
  • Rochesterfest 2026 organizers announced the event’s theme ONE NATION-MANY STORIES—highlighting diverse chapters of American life to mark the nation's 250th anniversary. The festival will run June 20 through June 28, 2026.  KIMT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Olmsted County will distribute food boxes on November 7 to support 6,600 households affected by the SNAP Gap during the federal shutdown. Eligible SNAP and MFIP recipients must register by noon on November 6—pickup will occur at drive-through sites in Rochester, Eyota, and Stewartville.  KIMT
  • The Rochester City Council approved $100K from the Contingency Fund to help Channel One Regional Food Bank amid changes in federal programs. City officials will work with Channel One—finalizing a service agreement to set fund distribution and accountability measures.  KIMT
  • Olmsted County voters approved two Byron Public Schools ballot measures Tuesday night — the operating levy received 1,385 yes votes against 1,200 no votes and the technology levy received 1,328 yes votes against 1,256 no votes. Both measures passed by narrow margins, showing close contests in the school district vote.  KTTC
