COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Women’s Shelter in Rochester raised over $120,000 during its ‘Transforming Lives’ event to support domestic violence victims — the fundraiser served 10 counties during domestic violence awareness month. The shelter will open a new facility in early December to offer more help. KTTC
- ➤ Earlier this month, community members joined Walk to End Alzheimer’s at Saint Mary’s University and raised nearly $120,000 to support Alzheimer’s classes, resources, and dementia research—donations will continue until December 31 as the event works toward a final goal of $150,000. KTTC
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Rochester police issued 6 school bus violation citations in August and 10 in September as back-to-school traffic increased — RPD said that improved stop arm camera evidence is making it easier to hold violators accountable, KTTC reported. KTTC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Minnesota’s Department of Children, Youth, and Families warns that if Congress does not pass a continuing resolution, 440,000 people will lose SNAP benefits on November 1. Without nearly $73 million in federal funds, households including 180,000 children and 67,000 seniors may face a growing food need — local agencies could struggle to keep up. KTTC
