COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Boyer Halloween House (located on 51st Street NW by Holy Spirit) is drawing crowds with over 150 inflatables and glowing displays for Halloween. The display (which includes a tunnel and fog effects) will also raise donations for Channel One Regional Food Bank via Venmo as the festive season continues.  KROC-AM
  • A study by KURU Footwear shows that Minnesota is ranked as the 10th best state for trick-or-treating, based on low pedestrian death rates (0.97 per 100k), high walkability (71), and a large number of children. The ranking will help families choose safe, lively neighborhoods for Halloween festivities later this month.  KROC-AM

  • A study of names in Minnesota shows that Johnson is the most common last name with Anderson and Nelson close behind. The research draws on U.S. Census Bureau and Ancestry.com data and highlights the state's strong German and Scandinavian roots.  KROC-AM

HEALTH NEWS

  • Rochester residents will be able to drop off unused medications at National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 25th from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at Mayo Family Clinic Northeast at 3041 Stonehedge Drive NE to prevent misuse and protect the environment. If residents cannot attend, a drop box at the Adult Detention Center offers another safe disposal option + helping keep our community secure.  KROC-AM
  • In Minnesota, experts warn pet owners that certain Halloween treats such as chocolate and candy put dogs at risk—owners should resist giving in to picky pet requests during trick-or-treating to avoid harmful effects.  KROC-AM
  • Minnesotans are warned not to burn items like junk mail, gift wrap, or delivered packages in their fireplaces to avoid toxic fumes and chimney fires—experts advise that only materials designed for indoor burning be used to keep homes safe.  KROC-AM
