COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Salvation Army and volunteers from Think Bank worked on Monday — sorting donated winter items to prepare for the coat giveaway. The event will distribute coats, gloves, boots, hats, and snow pants on Wednesday and Thursday — helping local community members stay warm this winter.  KTTC
  • Channel One Regional Food Bank is hosting the 21st annual Empty Bowls To Go event at the Pinnacle Catering Facility in Rochester, where local restaurants will offer gourmet soups and fresh bread to help fight food insecurity. Orders will close at 7:00 p.m. on October 16—pick up will be available October 21—22.  KROC-AM
  • On Monday, Oct 13, 220 Think Bank employees volunteered at 20 nonprofit organizations in Rochester, helping pack 600 boxes for an elder nutrition program at Channel One Food Bank, sort donations, and clear educational gardens at the Rochester Alternative Learning Center. CEO Jenny Hosfeld and branch manager Cally Bunne said the event reflected the bank's long-standing commitment to the community—continuing a seven-year tradition.  KIMT

  • Google Frightgeist released its list of trending Halloween costumes in Minnesota, breaking the state into five regions and noting that Rochester’s top kids’ costume is Rumi from KPop Demon Hunters—other regions highlighted distinct popular choices for both kids and adults.  KROC-AM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Department announced that retired Sheriff Charles 'Chuck' R. VonWald died. He began his law enforcement career in 1958 and served as sheriff from 1970 to 1991—he helped establish the VonWald Youth Center with his late wife, Bette.  KTTC

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Minnesota Department of Public Safety said eight fire departments—Rochester included—have received 2,500 free carbon monoxide alarms to install in homes with higher risk populations as winter nears. The move will help protect residents from CO poisoning as cold weather approaches.  KIMT

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Minnesota homeowners are urged to disconnect garden hoses from outdoor faucets to stop water from freezing and bursting in the pipes—this simple step could save thousands as winter approaches.  KROC-AM
