COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Former KTTC anchor Megan Zemple—after nearly six years—left her position on September 21 and joined the KIMT News 3 morning team. She said she is excited about the new opportunity and will remain in Rochester.  KROC-AM
  • The Rochester Branch of the NAACP, founded on October 11, 1965, will mark its 60th anniversary on November 15 at the 2025 Freedom Fund Banquet—an event that honors local efforts in social justice and community building. Two keynote speakers, including mayors from La Crosse and Brooklyn Park, will provide insight while proceeds support equity and justice initiatives.  KTTC
  • Local restaurants on 2nd Street have launched a support local challenge that asks customers to snap a meal photo and post it with the tag SupportLocalon2ndSt by October 31+ winners will be announced on November 3. The contest comes amid downtown construction that has slowed foot traffic and is designed to boost local business.  KROC-AM
  • 125 Live is asking for donations as the holiday season nears and community food needs grow. The food pantry started during COVID-19 and accepts staples such as turkeys, hams, and extra cans—helping ensure local families can stock up.  KIMT

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • As fall increases deer activity, Rochester drivers are urged to slow in wooded areas at night and brake if a deer appears—if a collision occurs, they must safely pull over, remain in the vehicle, and call 911 so emergency services can assist any injured individuals.  KIMT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Kwik Trip has been named the country’s best convenience store after an ACSI survey boosted its score to 84—outpacing competitors like Wawa, Sheetz and Buc-ees.  KROC-AM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rochester Public Schools approved a new logo, vision and mission statement on Tuesday, Oct 7 to attract more families as enrollment grows, according to the superintendent. He said the branding update cost $100,000 from the district’s nearly $4 million budget and is meant to set the school apart from others—like Rochester Catholic Schools—by highlighting its strong academic and technical programs.  KIMT
  • Rochester Community and Technical College has named English instructor Mike Mutschelknaus as its Outstanding Educator for 2025—an honor recognizing his dedication to teaching and support for student growth. He will also be a finalist for the Minnesota State Board of Trustees Award for Excellence with a system-wide celebration planned in April.  KIMT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rochester transit driver Kevin Hemann was honored as Driver of the Year on Oct. 6 by the Minnesota Public Transit Association for his more than twenty years of service with SMART—his leadership kept daily operations running smoothly and helped coordinate vehicle maintenance and driver scheduling.  KTTC
  • Olmsted County Veteran Services said its core services will remain available during the shutdown—public communication will be scaled back until the end of the federal impasse. The agency has released lists detailing what services will and will not be offered during this period.  KIMT

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Kick'n Cancer Gala is scheduled for Saturday, October 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the Hilton in downtown Rochester — the event will feature a Dessert Dash, live music, and formal dining to raise funds for the Rochester Hope Lodge that supports cancer patients during treatment.  KROC-AM
