COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A new event called Meaningful Mornings will be held tomorrow at Forager Brewery’s Barrel Room in Rochester from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.—the free meet-up aims to build genuine connections and lead meaningful conversations over coffee and donuts.  KROC-AM
  • Rochester will host Link or Treat, a free Halloween event along the future Link Bus Rapid Transit corridor on October 21 from 5 to 7 p.m.—families will enjoy trick-or-treating, games and learn about the transit project.  KIMT
  • United Way and Rochester Motor Cars launched the 2025 Give United Drawing—participants who give between September 1 and December 31 enter for a two-year lease on a new vehicle. Donations can be made directly or through the Workplace Giving Campaign, and each dollar provides a chance to help our community.  KIMT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • University of Minnesota Rochester saw record-breaking enrollment in September with nearly 400 new undergraduate students—more than an 80% increase from last year and mostly Minnesotans—and it plans new housing, classrooms and labs to reach 1,500 students in the coming years.  KIMT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • RPU will start lowering Lake Zumbro by half a foot daily on October 15 until October 27—this drawdown is needed for hydroelectric maintenance and shoreline projects, and residents are advised to check real-time updates and exercise caution near the dam. The lake will be kept at 908.5 feet before refilling starts on November 10 to reach a winter pool at 913.0 feet.  KIMT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State Senator Liz Boldon announced she will run for reelection and will host a campaign re-launch event on Tuesday, October 21 from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m.—the event aims to address local concerns about rising costs—and she promised to work for real solutions for our community.  KIMT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mayo Clinic researchers discovered a new protein—KCTD10—that controls DNA during cell division and may lead to improved cancer treatments. The clinic will study cancers lacking KCTD10 to design targeted therapies as part of its Precure initiative.  KIMT
  • Mayo Clinic pediatrician Dr. Robert Jacobson advised that influenza cases will rise in December and urged our community to get a flu vaccine, a COVID-19 shot, and check other vaccines—like shingles and RSV—to stay healthy. He also stressed that washing your hands helps prevent the spread of germs.  KTTC
  • Today, Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service reflects on 41 years of MayoOne, its medical helicopter that began transporting patients in 1984—serving as a beacon of hope and providing lifesaving care.  KTTC
