- ➤ NAMIWalks Southeast Minnesota is preparing for its big fundraiser today at Cascade Lake Park to support mental health programs. More than 350 people have registered as on-site registration opens at 9 a.m.—the opening ceremony starts at 10:40 a.m. before the 2.4-mile walk with a one-mile option available. KTTC
- ➤ North Star Honor Flight will send 83 veterans and 78 guardians on an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. on September 30—departing Rochester International Airport early for an honor program before a guided tour of the nation's memorial sites and returning in the evening. KIMT
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ A beloved Rochester taco spot, Taco JED will close its brick-and-mortar restaurant along S Broadway after Oct. 18 as owner Steve Dunn cites challenges from COVID-19 and nearby construction. During its final three weeks the restaurant will offer old menu favorites and live music, and Dunn may continue the Taco JED brand with his taco truck next summer — marking nearly seven years in business. - ➤ Historic Chateau Theatre is reviving film nights with a screening of Monty Python and the Holy Grail on September 30 at 7:00 p.m. with tickets costing $10 for adults—future plans include a La La Land showing on October 2 and a week of movie events starting October 26 for its 98th birthday. KIMT
- ➤ Oktoberfest in Rochester, presented by DBS Group, is happening today from 11:00 a.m.—10 p.m. on 1st Ave SW and will feature live music, authentic German food and beer along with contests such as apple bobbing and stein holding; all proceeds will benefit House of Shields. KTTC

- ➤ MagiKids, a nonprofit in Rochester founded by Jason Eggington, is giving free Magic: The Gathering cards to educators nationwide to help children build learning skills. The team packages about 30 boxes of donated cards each week and receives around 50 applications from groups like libraries and military bases—many of which serve underserved communities. KTTC
- ➤ Longfellow Elementary School raised $1,941.28 for the Alzheimer’s Association to honor former teacher Kristie Beck after her Alzheimer’s diagnosis—students and teachers doused each other with buckets of ice-cold water in a tribute reflecting her 19-year career. KTTC

- ➤ The Destination Medical Center Corporation board approved an $85.6 million capital improvement plan for downtown Rochester for 2026—27. The plan uses $38.4 million to upgrade infrastructure in partnership with Mayo Clinic and awaits City Council approval in October. KIMT

- ➤ Last Friday, more than 100 Mayo Clinic nurses gathered at a local Hilton for the second annual Nursing Nexus conference—where they discussed how advanced AI tools, such as the Nursing Virtual Assistant, can support patient care.
