COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Rochester Public Utilities said trails and bridges in Slatterly Park, Bear Creek, and Soldier's Field Park are now open as part of the Marion Road Duct Bank Project that will improve the city’s electrical system. The utility warned that short-term closures for cable installation will occur later this year — lasting a few days to a week — with additional temporary closures possible over the next one to two years. - ➤ Members of the Rochester community will hold a vigil to honor Charlie Kirk, a conservative commentator shot and killed in Utah, at Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial on September 18 at 6 p.m.—attendees will observe prayers, music, and a moment of silence for his remembrance. KTTC
- ➤ Rochester organizers will hold a vigil for peace and remembrance of Charlie Kirk on Thursday at Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial starting at 6 p.m. The event will include prayers, music and a moment of silence to honor him after he was fatally shot last Wednesday. KROC-AM

- ➤ The Small Business Development Center will host a free bilingual networking event at the Rochester BioBusiness Center tomorrow, September 17, to support Hispanic small business owners. Additional free entrepreneur courses and family activities will take place in September and October—providing resources in both English and Spanish. KTTC

- ➤ Jefferson Elementary School is marking its 75th anniversary with the theme '75 reasons why...' and is planning a legacy mural designed by local artist Cassandra Buck while aiming to raise $7,400 in donations. The school will host a fall carnival on September 27 from 3-6 p.m.—an event open to students, families, and alumni. KIMT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Rochester Public Utilities recommended adding digital payment fees of $3 for residential and $16 for commercial to help keep future rates lower during the city budget finalization—if approved, the fees will start next year. The proposal also calls for a 9% water rate increase and a 4 to 6% electric rate increase, with council voting on the changes on September 23. KTTC

- ➤ A Mayo Clinic study found that many heart attacks in women under 65 were caused by nontraditional factors—like SCAD and embolism—instead of clogged arteries. Doctors say recognizing these causes may lead to better treatment and improved recovery. KIMT
- ➤ Mayo Clinic’s Proton Therapy Program in Rochester treated 10,000 patients a decade after it began and now treats 30 to 40 percent more patients than similar centers. The program uses advanced pencil beam scanning technology to reduce wait times and improve targeting—its new Florida building opened in June to offer the first carbon ion therapy in the Americas.
