CRIME NEWS

  • A Rochester man (24-year-old Leontan Marshawn Troy) faces a felony drug charge for allegedly selling fentanyl to a police informant in four transactions during July and August with bail set at $200,000 and a court date later this month.  KROC
  • Rochester schools received a second SWAT call Friday morning when a threat was directed at Holy Spirit and police quickly determined it was not credible—officers have since increased their presence as the investigation continues.  KIMT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Rochester is inviting local artists to share abstract designs for a new bridge project that will improve safety and accessibility over the Zumbro River—encouraging ideas that reflect 'The Future of Rochester.' Applications must be submitted by 1:59 p.m. on September 19 and chosen artists will work with engineers before presenting their ideas at the Sixth Street Sessions on October 22.  KIMT
  • AAA released new survey data on school zone safety rules that require drivers to stop 20 feet away when a bus shows red lights—more than half of Minnesota drivers admitted to driving through school zones, with some also breaking hands-free and speeding rules. The data shows drivers know the law yet still sometimes violate it.  KTTC
  • Rochester's government center meeting room is getting nearly $600K in upgrades that add a new AV system, carpet, drapes and lighting, plus an assisted hearing loop — funded partly by city PEG funds. City council meets at the Public Utilities building and county board at the Public Health Services Building — until the room reopens in about eight weeks.  KTTC

HEALTH NEWS

  • SEMNFRR and Olmsted Medical Center launched Harvesting Health, a 12-week program that provides free farm-fresh food boxes to patients facing food insecurity—referrals from healthcare providers let patients pick up boxes every Wednesday from August 13 to October 29 at 5507 Chateau Road Northwest.  KIMT
