  • Renning’s Flowers on Elton Hills Drive offers a free rose to anyone whose name is shown on its sign, a tradition that has brightened days for over 15 years—owner Phil Schroeder said the shop now uses the sign to choose common names and even accept requests for variations as it celebrates 66 years of service and keeps the sign up all year.  KTTC

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Authorities suspect alcohol was involved when a motorcycle went off I-90 near Eyota Monday night in Olmsted County—57-year-old Daniel Allen Parker from Fountain was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  KROC-AM
  • On Monday afternoon, a crash on Hwy. 52 near Jade Rd. in Fillmore County sent 69-year-old Steven Andrew Baker from Fountain to St Mary's Hospital after his Jeep struck a tractor driven by a 16-year-old. The State Patrol said only the two drivers were involved in the accident.  KROC-AM

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Duane Hawkins reopened Kahler Barbershop in the Rochester subway on Tuesday, Sept.2 after a nearly three-year break following his kidney cancer treatment. He now serves loyal customers with new hours from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday at about $26 per haircut—though prices may rise later.  KIMT

CRIME NEWS

  • Wabasha County Sheriff's Office identified Barbara McBride-Law, a 63-year-old Lakeville resident whose body was found in a camper at Mac's Park Place near Lake Zumbro—about 20 miles north of Rochester—over Labor Day weekend, and investigators call her death suspicious while awaiting autopsy results.  KROC

ECONOMY NEWS

  • RPU will raise electric rates by 6% each year for the next five years—energy costs have increased due to rising raw material prices, the end of renewable tax credits, and other inflationary pressures forcing a change in power sources.  KROC

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • This past summer in Rochester was warmer and wetter than usual with an average temperature of 70°—1.3° above normal—and rainfall reaching 16.52 inches, marking it as the 18th wettest summer on record.  KIMT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rochester Public Transit is planning fall service changes to boost efficiency and cut costs by saving $1 million — the agency began seeking public input on September 2 and will accept feedback until September 30, with open houses set for September 12, 16, 18 and 23.  KIMT
  • Olmsted County is holding October interviews for advisory board positions on boards such as the Chester Heights Sewer District Advisory Board, Extension Committee + Planning Advisory Commission/Zoning Board of Adjustment. Applicants must submit applications by September 30 at 5 p.m. + selected candidates will be contacted with further details.  KIMT

HEALTH NEWS

  • A recent Mayo Clinic study shows that a shorter treatment using minimally invasive surgery followed by a two-week course of gentler radiation reduces side effects for patients with HPV-positive throat cancer and maintains high cure rates. The study of 228 patients may change treatment for intermediate risk cases — though high-risk patients may still need the standard six-week therapy.  KIMT
