- ➤ The century-old Wanamingo school will be converted into a full-time day care this fall by a local family as renovations near completion—its gym will also be opened for community use for sports like volleyball and basketball after the K-W district moved students to Kenyon last January. KTTC

- ➤ A 78-year-old Medford motorcyclist crashed off Hwy 60 about 10 miles west of Wabasha on Sunday after 5:15 p.m. and was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester with non-life-threatening injuries — he was not wearing a helmet. KROC-AM

EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Today, Rochester Public Schools launched a three-tier plan to reduce chronic absenteeism by sending messages to families and offering extra support for students missing 10% of class time—Superintendent Kent Pekel said the measure targets challenges that grew during COVID-19 and continue as classes resume. ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today, a section of the Cascade Lake Trail near West Transit Village is closing on weekdays for about three weeks for construction and stormwater upgrades — the full loop will be inaccessible during the week while remaining open on weekends. KIMT

- ➤ Crews from MnDOT will begin resurfacing Hwy. 52 & Hwy. 57 on September 8, reducing lanes to single traffic flow in work zones from Zumbrota to County Road 7 and from Kasson to the Zumbro River, with completion expected by October 6. KROC
- ➤ A dedication ceremony for the new SE Minnesota Peace Officer’s Memorial will be held on September 11 at Soldiers Field Park in Rochester — the event starts with site tours from 5 to 6 p.m. and a program at 6:30 p.m. that will honor the 45 officers who lost their lives serving the community.
