CRIME NEWS

  • A man was arrested after multiple shots were fired at a Rochester residence on 55th Street NE late Friday night & officers secured the scene as everyone inside exited safely while he now faces multiple weapons-related charges.  KTTC
  • Three men were arrested and charged for a robbery outside Kathy’s Pub early Saturday after attacking an intoxicated victim in an alley and stealing his wallet and phone—police said the suspects were released without bail and will appear in court next month.  KROC-AM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rochester staff recommended a $664 million operating and capital improvement budget and a $118 million tax levy increase that will lead to a 5.9% rise in taxes in 2026 — the measure is meant to cover rising employee costs, new staff roles, and increased public safety expenses. The council will set a preliminary levy on Sep 22 and make final budget decisions on Dec 2.  KTTC
  • City staff recommended a 5.9% tax levy increase for the 2026 budget and presented the plan Monday to raise the tax levy to $118.2 million for a $663.85 million spending package that covers rising costs. Councilmembers will review the budget on September 3 and 15 — then vote on the maximum levy increase on September 22 before finalizing it in early December.  KROC-AM

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mayo Clinic confirmed Monday morning that its Bold. Forward. Unbound. initiative entered a new construction phase that adds five projects—two clinical buildings, two patient arrival and parking facilities, a logistics center and upgraded utilities in downtown Rochester. The project will meet key milestones in 2026 such as reopening 2nd Street SW and launching new entrances—while keeping its $5 billion cost unchanged.  KTTC
  • Fred Woolman from Rochester became the Guinness World Record holder as the oldest active personal trainer at 84. He has trained at 125 Live for nearly a decade—starting his fitness journey at age 8 with boxing and calisthenics—and he now plans to set his next challenge.  KIMT
