CRIME NEWS

  • A Rochester man with five previous impaired driving offenses was sentenced to four months in jail—serving 30 days each year for four years—for a felony DWI after a December traffic stop in downtown Rochester, and he also received five years of probation and a $1,000 fine.  KROC-AM
  • Mohamed Noor Jimale, a 24-year-old man from Faribault, admitted to a lesser second-degree criminal sexual conduct charge for sexually assaulting a 13-year-old in Owatonna and was sentenced to seven years and six months in prison—he will also serve 10 years of supervised release after his term.  KROC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Rochester Police Department has managed nearly full staffing and will swear in eight new recruits later this fall — even as a statewide pass rate drop of over 37% challenges many agencies.  KTTC

SPORTS NEWS

  • Leadership Greater Rochester and its community partners launched the Youth Connections Sports Trailer Tuesday at Franklin Elementary School to offer free sports equipment and more play opportunities for local youth; Rochester Parks & Recreation will manage the trailer so community groups can reserve it through the city rental system.  KIMT
