ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Two people were injured when a 2013 Buick Enclave and a 1951 Mercury Coupe collided at 11:48 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Highway 14 and 50th Avenue SE in Olmsted County—drivers Debra Marie Sutherland, 72, and Peter Alan Ask, 84, with Ask taken by Mayo Ambulance to St. Marys Hospital for treatment.  KIMT

CRIME NEWS

  • Rochester police are searching for a motorist who hit a bicyclist in a northwest intersection when the vehicle struck the bike’s back tire as the rider crossed the road Sunday morning, and the injured bicyclist—suffering head and face injuries—was taken to a hospital.  KROC-AM
  • On Saturday evening, Rochester Police stopped a vehicle on Hwy. 52 near the 41st St. Northwest interchange—searching the car they found 85 grams of methamphetamine and 200 MDMA pills and arrested 34-year-old driver Jason Bennett and 44-year-old passenger Lorenzo Heard, who were booked into Olmsted County Jail on suspicion of felony drug sales and possession.  KROC
  • A Saturday traffic stop on Hwy. 52 near the 41st St. Northwest interchange led Rochester police to arrest 34-year-old Jason Bennett and 44-year-old Lorenzo Heard when officers found 85 grams of methamphetamine and 200 MDMA pills in their vehicle (around 6:30 p.m.).  KROC-AM

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local health professionals in Rochester urge parents to set media limits after a study (from the Journal of the American Medical Association) found that heavy smartphone use in children under 13 is linked to suicidal behaviors and social media addiction starting at age 11. Dr. Joshua Stein at Prairie Care said limiting screen time can help protect children’s developing minds.  KTTC
  • Health officials from Mayo Clinic, Olmsted Medical Center and other public health services are partnering with local schools to offer flu shots to everyone aged six months and older from September 15 through October 10. The program aims to reduce flu spread in schools—about 20% of school-aged children contract the flu each season—and keep students in class.  KIMT
