- ➤ Kutzky Park in Rochester will host its annual Porchfest on September 13 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM with more than a dozen local bands performing at a free outdoor music festival. Local vendors + food trucks will serve residents and visitors throughout the event. KIMT

- ➤ A May survey from the Federal Reserve Bank and Hospitality Minnesota showed that Rochester restaurants experienced a 60.4% rise in supply prices from February to April; owners at places like Francisco’s and Saigon Banh Mi and Kung Fu Tea said the cost of items such as steak and eggs has sharply increased—forcing them to adjust their operations to cover rising expenses. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Rochester police arrested Dustin Armin Niemeyer (age 51) on Wednesday near Highway 52 and Civic Center Drive after pulling him over for multiple equipment violations and an invalid driver’s license, and a subsequent vehicle search found over 16 grams of methamphetamine, six cell phones, a digital scale, and about 100 baggies used for drugs. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Teachers at Longfellow Elementary School launched a hammock garden as part of a three-phase outdoor classroom project funded by a $2,000 Mayo Clinic community engagement grant — Scheel donated more than 30 hammocks for the project. Students use the garden for silent reading weekly and will soon see an outdoor classroom with benches and a natural playscape added. KTTC

- ➤ At Aune Hall on August 7, county staff used a lottery with bingo tumblers to select 8 businesses for a marijuana microbusiness license—11 applicants were narrowed down with 3 alternates chosen. KIMT
- ➤ Rochester City Council decided to build the outdoor portion of the Regional Sports Complex first and delay the indoor section until more funds are raised after the project went nearly $60 million over budget. DFL Rep. Kim Hicks will revise the 2023 sales tax extension to ensure voters got what they paid for—local law experts and officials are split on whether the changes can easily be made. KTTC
