ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Rochester police said a 38-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle while lying in the eastbound lanes on the 2700 block of Salem Rd. Southwest near Bamber Lake (first responders attempted life-saving measures before pronouncing him dead).  KROC
  • A 20-year-old woman driving an SUV was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after her vehicle left the road and entered a ditch near the Hwy. 52/57 interchange—13 miles northwest of Zumbrota—on Sunday evening while her teenage boy passenger was unharmed.  KROC

CRIME NEWS

  • Rochester police executed a search warrant at a home on Elton Hills Ct.—a man was charged with first-degree drug sales and possession after officers seized over 12 ounces of meth, including 342.4 grams from a first aid kit found in a bedroom.  KROC-AM
  • Rochester police searched a home in the 900 block of Elton Hills Ct (NW Rochester) and seized more than 12 ounces of meth from a bag marked 'first aid kit' that held 342.4 grams of the drug, charging 43-year-old Shane Christopherson with first-degree drug sales and drug possession (bail was set at $20,000).  KROC

CULTURE NEWS

  • During National Farmers Market Week from August 3-9, immigrant farmers are showcasing traditional produce in Rochester as part of a program by The Village Agricultural Cooperative that rents local land for farming and supports about 250 families. The market operates Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. near Covent Church and Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the History Center of Olmsted County and MLK park pavilion.  KTTC
  • Latino Fest returns to Rochester on September 20 at the Château Theater and Peace Plaza from noon to 7 p.m.—the free event will offer live music, dance, authentic food, cultural exhibits and a new Chihuahua Dog Fashion Show to celebrate Latin American culture and unity.  KIMT
  • Friends of the Rochester Public Library and the Rochester Art Center are hosting the Big Picture book sale on August 6 and 7 on the Art Center's patio in Rochester where visitors can purchase oversized books priced between $5 and $10. Proceeds will support library operations — and visitors will enjoy free art center entry from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. during the sale.  KIMT
