- ➤ Rochester Public Utilities said more than 1,300 customers in southeast Rochester were affected by power outages as crews worked to restore service yesterday (across 25 outage areas). One crew was active at 3 p.m. (with power expected to be restored by 4:30 p.m.). KTTC
ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ The Rochester Fire Department responded to a fire at the Rochester Public Utilities substation on June 2 when heavy smoke was seen—contents sustained heavy damage while the structure had minor to moderate damage and officials said insurance will cover part of the estimated $60 million cost while a new gas turbine will be online in 2029. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ One of the two Rochester men charged in a theft scheme that cost a local business over $100K pleaded guilty to diverting corporate property and will be sentenced in October with a recommended probation and $36,849.55 in restitution—while charges against the other suspect remain pending. KROC-AM
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Mayo Clinic researchers discovered that sialic acid—an immune evasion tool used by cancer cells—may help protect insulin-producing beta cells from immune attacks in type 1 diabetes. Their preclinical study showed that engineered beta cells were 90% effective in avoiding destruction and the team plans to develop transplantable cells that do not require full immune suppression.
