  • Fundraising professionals in Rochester are calling for nominations for National Philanthropy Day in November—seeking individuals and businesses that make a difference. Nominations must be received by August 15, and the application takes only five minutes.  KTTC

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A 21-year-old Albert Lea man was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester after his car crossed the centerline on Hwy. 42 near 290th Ave just south of Elgin on Thursday morning — he was buckled up and alcohol was not involved.  KROC-AM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Wildfire smoke from Canada has pushed air quality to dangerous levels; an alert covering North Iowa will expire at 12 AM Saturday—southeast Minnesota, including our area, remains under alert until 5 PM Saturday.  KIMT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rochester Public Utilities Board will present a budget recommendation next week that includes over $240 million in borrowing costs to meet the city’s 2030 clean energy goal & cover expenses from replacing lost power capacity after a plant fire and rising costs from phased-out tax credits and tariffs. The plan proposes electric rates to rise 6% each year & water rates to increase by up to 9% in the next two years, which would add nearly $6 and about $2 a month to average bills.  KROC-AM
