CRIME NEWS

  • An 18-year-old Rochester man was arrested Friday night after a high-speed chase on Hwy. 52 — he faces charges of felony fleeing and misdemeanor speeding and is set to appear in court this fall.  KROC
  • Rochester police responded to Walmart North after a dead man was found in a vehicle in the parking lot+ his body was taken to the Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner’s Office while the investigation continued.  KTTC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rochester's 911 communications center has added an automated callback system to reduce the nearly 10% of calls that disconnected before being answered. The system, implemented earlier in July, redials callers automatically and plays a recorded message so they can press 1 for help or 2 if no assistance is needed, and a Public Safety Telecommunicator follows up if there is no response after two attempts.  KIMT
  • The Minnesota Department of Public Safety warned Minnesota residents on X about a text scam that falsely claims to be from a DMV — a fake agency that never sends messages asking for money—and urged locals to delete suspicious texts.  KTTC

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mayo Clinic announced that it acquired a new NVIDIA supercomputer to boost its AI research and improve patient outcomes with faster pathology slide analysis. The hospital said it is partnering with Aignostics to train an AI on more than 1.2 million images (drawing on a platform of over 20 million digitized slides) as part of its Bold. Forward.
