  • The Madeline Kingsbury Foundation hosted its first major fundraiser on Saturday to educate and raise awareness about domestic violence. The event featured a silent auction, resource tables, a touch-a-truck for children, and meal options.  KTTC
  • The Boys & Girls Club of Rochester announced that the freeze on 21st Century Community Learning Center funding has been lifted—ensuring the club can continue offering free afterschool and summer programs for local youth. The organization credited advocates Sen. Amy Klobuchar, Sen. Tina Smith, and Rep. Brad Finstad for helping secure the funds to support these programs through 2026 and beyond.  KIMT
  • Bob Bardwell, founder of Ironwood Springs Christian Ranch, died Thursday at 78 after battling cancer. He started the ranch in 1976 after a construction accident left him paralyzed — the facility now offers programs that serve 16,000 people including those with disabilities and military families.  KROC
  • Families and bikers came together on Saturday at the first Pistons 4 Prevention event organized by 4 Youth with the help of the Soul Shakers Riding Club to guide parents on how to talk about addiction.   • The Dodge County Sheriff's Office is asking for help after 17-year-old Kiera McQuire—last seen leaving her Mantorville home on July 21—went missing and anyone with information should call 507-635-6200 or 911.  KROC-AM
  • Rochester police reported that on May 15, Frederick Anthony Douglas is charged with two gross misdemeanor counts of animal mistreatment (abandonment and failure to provide food and water) after officers found his dog severely malnourished in southeast Rochester.  KROC

ECONOMY NEWS

  • In June, Olmsted County set records with over 93,900 employed workers and nearly 96,800 labor force members, yet the unemployment rate increased to 3%—seasonal factors likely contributed to the rise.  KROC-AM
  • June's employment update showed that Olmsted County set record totals with over 93,900 jobs and nearly 96,800 labor force members, while the unemployment rate climbed to 3%, a four-tenths increase from May. Every county in southeastern Minnesota saw rates rise, with Freeborn County reaching 4.1% and the largest one-point jump.  KROC

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mayo Clinic hosted a dinner celebration Saturday in the Landow Atrium to honor living kidney and liver donors (over 400 people attended) as speakers praised the life-saving impact of donations. The event featured a catered dinner and panel discussion while noting that living donors give over 5,700 organs each year.  KTTC
