- ➤ David Engle, convicted for murdering his step-great-grandmother, is set to have a parole hearing on Aug. 22 (his first chance in 30 years for potential release) while family members urge that he remain in prison. KTTC
- ➤ A Rochester woman said a homeless man named Billy Ray Cade Jr.—with past convictions for domestic and sexual assault—strangled her and threatened her children with a knife during an argument at her home before he fled on foot. KROC
- ➤ A People’s Energy Cooperative member in Theilman was targeted by a scammer on July 24th when a caller pretending to be from Xcel Energy demanded immediate payment to avoid disconnection — the Cooperative warns members to verify payment requests using the number on their bill. KIMT
- ➤ A People’s Energy Cooperative member in the Theilman area was targeted by a scam Thursday when someone posing as an Xcel Energy worker threatened to disconnect service and demanded immediate payment—prompting the member to call the cooperative for help. KTTC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Destination Medical Center is updating its 2025 Development Plan and will host in-person events and surveys to gather input from residents—its goal is to use lessons from the first ten years to shape plans for health, innovation and growth in Rochester. The update will show how careful design and planning can improve community well-being. KIMT
- ➤ Rochester will begin lane closures on 3rd Ave. SE on Monday, July 28 as utility work for the Link BRT project reduces the four-lane road to one lane in each direction from 4th St. to 8th St. SE—traffic will be shifted and work on 6th St. SE will start August 18. KROC
