- ➤ This weekend, Rochester Chess Club hosted its largest chess festival at Mayo Civic Center by holding the fourth annual Rochester Open and the Midwest Regional Championship for Women & Girls, drawing more than 150 players from the Midwest (including top chess masters) and aiming to boost female participation (as organizers noted the need for more girls in tournaments). ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ Authorities in Goodhue County are searching for a 56-year-old man who vanished in the Mississippi River near Long Point on Saturday afternoon — a water emergency call led a boat to rescue a 12-year-old girl — and specialized search teams continue to work for him. KROC
- ➤ On Saturday before 6 p.m., two pick-up trucks collided at the intersection of Hwy. 56 and County Rd. 9 southwest of Cannon Falls, and one driver, Kelly James Kreisler of Kenyon (50), was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries while Bryan Francis Linder escaped uninjured. - ➤ A 20-year-old man from Austin was sentenced after he pointed a handgun out of his car window at a group of girls near Taco Bell along North Broadway last summer—he spent two months in jail and will serve five years on probation with a potential prison term if he fails to meet the conditions. - ➤ A Dodge Center man, 21-year-old Victor Shane Sanchez, was charged with third-degree burglary, felony theft and receiving stolen property after investigators used phone analysis to link him to a break-in at a Rochester construction site on 5th St Northwest where tools valued at $5,314 were stolen, and he is scheduled for his first court appearance next spring.
