CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Rochester police officer was exposed to fentanyl during a suspected overdose call on Sunday night at a Circle K on 4th Street Southeast near Government Center—while searching drug paraphernalia from a suspect—and he received Narcan at the scene before being taken to St. Marys Hospital where he was treated and released. KROC-AM
- ➤ Rochester police charged 19-year-old (Remy Ritsema Nuon) with felony counts for soliciting a child online after he sent explicit messages to a 12-year-old girl who told him to stop, and investigators linked his actions to anonymous tips dating back to January 2024. KROC
- ➤ A Rochester Police Department officer experienced fentanyl exposure symptoms while responding to an overdose call at Circle K on 4th St. SE around 9 p.m. Sunday when emergency crews treated him with Narcan and transported him to Mayo Clinic St. Marys Campus where he was later released. KTTC
- ➤ Rochester police responded to reports of gunfire on Sunday at Village Green Townhomes and found a broken car window plus shell casings in an unoccupied vehicle with no injuries reported as the investigation continues. KTTC
- ➤ An Olmsted County judge ruled on July 10 that evidence from Betty’s friends can be used in the trial of former Mayo Clinic doctor Connor Bowman—he is accused of fatally poisoning his wife in 2023 and will face a motion hearing on August 28. KTTC
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The City of Rochester and The Trust for Public Land received a $26,500 Pollinator Pathways Grant from the Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources to convert four acres of turf grass at Joyce Park, McQuillan Park, Meadow Park and Meadow Park Estates Park into native pollinator habitats. Site preparation will begin soon — seeding will take place in the fall and park access will remain open throughout the project. KTTC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Work started Monday on Peace Plaza paver improvements to widen walkways by converting raised-letter pavers from Ann Hamilton's 'Song for Water' into a smooth surface and address safety issues. The work, managed by CD Tile & Stone from Blaine at the lowest bid, will modify about 1,000 pavers over six weeks while the plaza stays open (community feedback guided the changes) (city officials consulted disabilities groups and the artist). HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Mayo Clinic researchers discovered that CAR-T therapy cells age with prolonged activation signals and lose their ability to fight cancer over time. The study found that cells with the 4-1BB signal age faster than those with CD28, offering a new target for preventing relapse — a step toward treatments that may last longer. KIMT
