CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Rochester police officer fired their weapon at a man armed with a rifle during a standoff in southwest Rochester that began with a domestic dispute on Saturday night and ended Sunday morning when the suspect fled into a home and surrendered—no injuries were reported. KROC
- ➤ A truck driver from northern Iowa was charged with two counts of second-degree assault, illegal possession of a suppressor, and carrying a pistol without a permit after he allegedly pointed a loaded gun at a motorist in a construction zone on I-90 near Elkton in Austin—his conditional bail was set at $10,000 with a court hearing scheduled for next week. - ➤ A new law will let bikers lane split and filter tomorrow while DPS urges riders and motorists to be cautious + follow posted speed limits. Bikers may travel up to 25 mph between lanes and 15 mph over traffic when filtering, though roundabouts, freeway ramps and school zones remain off limits + several other states already follow similar rules. - ➤ Drivers on southern Minnesota highways will face extra speed enforcement during the July 4 holiday as the Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office and other agencies plan a Border-to-Border Speed Saturation effort focused on Highway 14 and extending to Highways 19 and 60. Officials say the plan will help keep roads safe during one of the busiest travel periods — a measure aimed at reducing speeding that has led to fatal crashes. KROC-AM
