COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ America’s Freedom Tribute Wall was unveiled with a welcome ceremony yesterday at 5:30 p.m.—featuring local veterans’ remarks—and will remain on display at Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial during Rochesterfest until June 28. KTTC
- ➤ Organizers of Rochesterfest installed a traveling Vietnam Wall at Soldiers Field Memorial Park on Monday, June 23 to honor veterans; the wall is a smaller replica of a Washington D.C. memorial for about 60,000 soldiers and first responders and was delivered by 60 law enforcement officers, veterans, and first responders who joined the ceremony. Organizers said the display is only the start of veteran programming planned for Wednesday from noon to 10 p.m. at the park. KIMT
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ State prosecutors and defense in the case of former Mayo Clinic doctor Connor Bowman, accused of fatally poisoning his wife in August 2023, continue to dispute which evidence – including records from Truepill and financial documents showing a deposit of over $450,000 after her death – may be admitted at trial as the judge has yet to rule on the motions. - ➤ A Rochester man—24-year-old Omar Perez Romero—is charged with disseminating and possessing child pornography after police seized 91 photos and videos from his northwest apartment and he admitted to viewing and sending the material on a social media app. KROC-AM
- ➤ Today, Samantha Jo Pittelko pleaded guilty to a third-degree drug possession charge just as jury selection was set to begin for her case stemming from a late summer fentanyl bust in southeast Rochester, where police seized over 2,300 pills. KROC-AM
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Camp Invention, a nonprofit summer program by the National Inventors Hall of Fame — working with the USPTO — is engaging 42 Rochester students at Gibbs Elementary School this week while a second session will run July 7-11 for additional campers. KTTC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Rochester City Council held a study session Monday, June 23 to review a proposed $145M capital improvement program for 2026 that includes 127 projects—such as $32 million for the airport runway, $14 million for the water reclamation plant, $7 million for the bus system, $5.7 million for East Center Street repairs, and $4.95 million for road and sewer work. City staff will release more details and finalize budget decisions this fall—along with potential property tax adjustments. KIMT
