Good morning, Rochester. Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 8th of June.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Young Rochester athletes completed the Kids Tri for Champions Adaptive Triathlon on Saturday at Soldiers Memorial Field Park, choosing to swim, run, or bike to match their abilities. Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine students and local groups organized the event, awarded medals at the finish line, and plan to host it again next year.  KTTC
  • Family Service hosted an open house at its new Family Resource Center in northwest Rochester where visitors enjoyed carnival games (airbrush tattoos, food, and balloon animals) as the center officially opened. The center supports parents and other caretakers and has already helped 112 families since its soft opening in March.  KTTC
  • At least 140 people gathered in Kasson on Saturday morning at KM Telecom Stadium to remember infant lives lost as they walked two miles down 16th Street SE. Parents Jalissa and Zach Tauscher created the event to honor their daughter Brynlee Rose — whose life was lost on May 3rd — and other infants, with silent auction proceeds — to be sent to Emma’s Footprints — supporting an annual tradition.  KTTC

CRIME NEWS

  • A Rochester man, 45-year-old Bol Slim Chhoun, pleaded guilty to drug possession after an October 2023 traffic stop—where a bulge in his pocket led to the discovery of nearly 30 grams of meth and drug paraphernalia—and he faces a three-year prison sentence with sentencing set for August.  KROC-AM
