COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rochester is giving away free yard signs and window decals to help residents and businesses show support for a welcoming community. The 1,000 signs, featuring messages like You Belong Here, are available while supplies last at City Hall (201 Fourth Street Southeast), Public Library (101 Second Street Southeast), Public Utilities (4000 East River Road Northeast) and Development Services (4001 West River Parkway Northwest).  KIMT
  • The Rochester Public Library has begun a pilot program that adds an extra 60 minutes of free parking at the Civic Center Ramp today. Visitors must bring their parking ticket and library card to the front desk to receive a validation sticker — saving them $3.  KIMT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Two Hy-Vee employees (pharmacy delivery driver John Hazuka and bakery cake designer Bryant Meyer) received the 2025 Legendary Customer Service Award and now have their smiles featured on a semi-trailer in Rochester; their pictures were unveiled Monday during a celebration at separate Hy-Vee locations.  KIMT
  • Mezza9 Café in downtown Rochester will close its doors on June 30 after financial struggles — rising costs and low foot traffic hindered its operations. The restaurant thanked loyal guests and invited them to visit before its final day.  KIMT

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices dropped last week as Minnesota saw an 18.5-cent decline to about $4.12 per gallon. Experts warned that if U.S.-Iran negotiations stall, prices may rise again — urging drivers to be mindful.  KROC-AM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Rochester Public Library started its Summer Playlist reading program for kids, teens and adults June 1 through Aug. 31 at the downtown library, Bookmobile and BookBox at Fire Station 4. Families can complete activities in six languages and earn a nature-themed bookbag by finishing before 8 pm on Aug. 31.  KIMT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Rochester City Council will consider a plan to add an indoor dome at the local sports complex at an upcoming meeting — the proposal aims to boost community recreation.  KTTC
  • The new roundabout at 4th St. SE and 19th Ave. SE near OMC — where about 14,800 vehicles travel daily — opened after months of construction delays from soil issues, aiming to reduce nine prior crashes, though 4th St. SE will close on June 8 for sanitary sewer maintenance.  KROC
  • Minnesota law allows bicyclists to treat stop signs as yield signs when an intersection is clear — drivers are reminded to keep three feet of space when passing to share the road safely.  KROC-AM
  • Starting June 8, the intersection of 14th Avenue Southwest and Second Street Southwest will be closed through June 22 as Link Bus Rapid Transit crews work on sewer and utility installations near Mayo Clinic Hospital; drivers will face a one-way northbound route on 14th Avenue Southwest during morning hours (5–9 a.m.).  KIMT
