COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Lincolnshire Splash Pad is closed today due to a maintenance issue, and Rochester Parks and Recreation has ordered the needed part so that it should reopen by tomorrow at 5276 Members Parkway NW— a free summer spot for families to cool off.  KROC-AM
  • American Idol winner Hannah Harper will headline a benefit show at the Mayo Civic Center on Saturday, July 25 to support local firefighters and first responders. Local hip-hop group Arketype and Poppa Bear Norton will also perform at 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.  KROC-AM
  • The City of Rochester will hold Bike to Work Day on June 23 from 6:30 to 9 a.m., inviting residents to join group rides and meet at breakfast stations across town — including five Mayo Clinic stations — to enjoy free food, giveaways and bike safety gear while promoting a healthy lifestyle.  KIMT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Marrow restaurant closed its doors yesterday as owners cited rising costs, changing dining habits, and a challenging operating environment — the building and equipment are now available for lease to new restaurateurs.  KIMT
  • Wingstop has filed a permit to open a restaurant at the old GameStop location (3780 NW Marketplace Dr, STE 109) in NW Rochester. The new restaurant adds to the city's growing list of chicken spots, though officials have not yet confirmed an opening date.  KROC-AM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Girls on the Run Minnesota will host a 5K celebration on May 31 at 9 a.m. on the Saint Mary's University – Rochester campus at 2900 19th Street Northwest to conclude an eight-week program for girls in grades 3 to 8, with more than 200 teams from 13 schools participating.  KIMT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Rochester Public Works invites neighbors to share input on Valley Drive NW traffic calming options on June 9 at Rochester Montessori School — drop in anytime from 6 to 7:30 p.m. as officials seek ways to curb speeding and boost neighborhood safety along five road segments.  KIMT
  • Officials at Rochester Technical and Community College have told city leaders that they are not pursuing a new indoor recreation dome near the Heinz Center because a long-term lease could limit future campus improvements (traffic, parking, and academic needs). The City Council will next consider alternative proposals on June 1.  KROC-AM

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local shelters Camp Companion and Paws and Claws list nine adoptable dogs including Golden Retrievers, Labradors, and Poodles that experts say can reduce stress and anxiety. Adopters should note (some dogs may need time to adjust) before bringing one home.  KROC-AM

SPORTS NEWS

  • Yesterday, the Honkers launched The Landing Zone tailgate party at Mayo Field to offer fans food trucks, drinks + live music before games. The pregame event kicked off at their first home game and will continue as they prepare for a final season at the historic ballpark.  KROC-AM
