COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Pastor Paul Bauch of Peace United Church of Christ, known for transforming his church into an inclusive sanctuary, will retire after 23 years of service and lead his final service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday— the church has set up a search committee to find his successor.  KTTC
  • More than 100 people gathered Monday morning at Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial to honor fallen heroes on Memorial Day, with flags flying half-staff and the pipe band playing 'Amazing Grace' — Rochester Public Schools students also gave speeches to reflect on their sacrifices.  KTTC
  • On Memorial Day, Marine Corps League Veterans visited five memorial sites in Rochester and honored fallen service members with prayers, the playing of Taps, and a 21-gun salute (their final stop was at Our Saviors Lutheran Church). The group said the tributes recalled a long tradition of military service and remembrance.  KTTC
  • Rochester parents remember Jerry Julian—known as Rochester’s True Santa—for his more than 25 years of spreading holiday cheer at local stores; he passed away in Colorado Springs at age 72 and his memory lives on in cherished local traditions.  KTTC

  • On Monday, Minnesota leaders posted Memorial Day messages online. Sen. Amy Klobuchar urged support for veteran healthcare while Rep. Brad Finstad and Sen. Tina Smith honored the sacrifices of our armed forces—each message showing deep gratitude.  KTTC

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Rochester/Marion KOA reported all 85 campsites were fully booked from Friday through Sunday starting May 23 during Memorial Day weekend as campers enjoyed cookouts and a quiet stay despite a construction detour on Highway 52 — officials said the detour will remain until November.  KIMT

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Memorial Day marked the start of summer as local realtors reported a sellers market for homes under $400,000 with a median price of $330,000. New listings rose by 5.7% and inventory increased by 15.5% (while interest rates ranged between 6% and 7%), signaling strong buyer activity.  KIMT
