COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Foster-Arend Park’s beach opened for the season Saturday and drew crowds on Memorial Day weekend as visitors swam, played in the sand and relaxed in warm weather — it also offers accessible features.  KIMT
  • Rochester’s Co-Cathedral is seeking donations to support its Seeds of Wisdom mission assisting over 300 students now in Ugandan refugee camps after civil war forced them from their school. Checks can be mailed to 11 4th Ave. SW.  KIMT
  • On Monday, May 25, Rochester residents gathered at Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial to honor local veterans during a Memorial Day program with heartfelt tributes and community remembrances.  KTTC
  • Chatfield retailer held a Memorial Day tribute at Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial to honor local fallen heroes while inviting community members to 'Taps of America' at Fleet Farm stores.  KTTC

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Southeastern Minnesota Arts Council awarded $238,495 in grants to 28 organizations + support arts programming in the region, with recipients chosen through a competitive review by the Art Advisory Panel.  KIMT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • MnDOT is closing the I-90 exit ramps near Hwy. 63 today for crack and joint sealing on a key bridge (weather dependent timing). Crews start at 8:00 a.m. and finish by 4:00 p.m., and drivers should expect detours and flaggers.  KROC
  • Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison has simplified the refund process for Rusco customers, letting them file a claim without a lawyer by sending a declaration to the trustee; claims must be submitted by July 1.  KROC-AM
  • Drivers exiting I-90 at Highway 63 north of Stewartville will see ramp closures today as crews seal bridge joints and cracks from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; detour signs direct traffic. The work is part of a project sealing 34 bridges in Mower and Olmsted counties.  KIMT
