COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Rochester released the 2026 Summer Fun & City Resources magazine that will soon be mailed to nearly 64,000 homes. The guide covers city services, seasonal events, and community programs (including the Riverside Music Series and Safe City Nights) and will also be available at key public locations.  KIMT
  • The boat ramp at Lake Zumbro Park opened Friday as crews completed final touches on the construction project. The new launch gives boaters convenient access to the lake.  KTTC

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Local beef farmers say you can save money this Memorial Day weekend by buying direct from vendors at the Rochester Farmers Market. Joe Grote of Big Woods Beef advises shoppers to skip middlemen + enjoy local cuts such as sirloin and T-bone steaks.  KIMT

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rochester is celebrating Preservation Month by launching heritage awards to honor local efforts to preserve the city’s history. City Administrator Alison Zelms said the event (which features the City Hall dome lighting maroon on May 27) spotlights cherished community stories and achievements.  KIMT

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Meteorologist Hunter Donahoe explains how a supercell produces common cyclonic tornadoes and rare anticyclonic tornadoes (rotating clockwise) in southeast Minnesota and North Iowa. He notes that only 1–2% of tornadoes form as anticyclonic events.  KIMT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Minnesota State Patrol warns drivers to avoid impaired driving and distractions as extra enforcement will be in place during Memorial Day weekend to keep roads safe amid construction and heavy traffic. Drivers are urged to buckle up and merge carefully in work zones.  KROC-AM
  • RPT employees from ATU Local 1005 and Transdev have reached a contract agreement valid through 2028 that gives a 20% salary increase over three years + replaces automatic suspensions for AI-triggered infractions with writeups. The deal protects workers if a new operator is awarded next month by the city council.  KIMT

HEALTH NEWS

  • Two Minn residents fell ill with salmonella after taking tnvitamins moringa capsules bought on Amazon last month and have since recovered, health officials said. The department warns consumers to avoid the product and check with a healthcare provider if needed.  KROC-AM
  • Minnesota cat owners should watch for Bobcat Fever, a serious tick-borne disease spread by expanding Lone Star tick populations. Vets advise extra care for outdoor cats during tick season — from March through September.  KROC-AM

  • Sam Darnold said he understood the Vikings’ decision to let him leave after a strong 2024 season as the team chose a younger quarterback; the Vikings will host the Packers on Sunday, Sept. 13.  KROC-AM
