- ➤ The north ice rink at the Rochester Rec Center will close for a major upgrade starting Memorial Day weekend until the end of July—new boards, glass, netting, marked player benches, penalty boxes, and a sound system will be installed as funds come from a Mayo Clinic Community Grant and local sports groups. The south rink will remain open with limited public skating and hockey sessions. KIMT

- ➤ A rollover crash on Highway 52 near mile marker 53 in Rochester Tuesday morning injured two men—Fidencio Ortiz, 36, and his passenger Joseph Allen Torres, 35—and both were taken to St. Marys Hospital for non life threatening treatment. KIMT

- ➤ The Residence Inn by Marriott near Apache Mall received the Marriott Select Brand Gold Award for 2025 — an honor for great guest service, clean rooms and smart marketing — and North Rock Hospitality said its team worked hard to serve guests, including many visiting Mayo Clinic. KIMT
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Rochester City Council approved on Monday the formation of a Tax Increment Financing District to support the Citywalk Apartment project—a $150 million development with 340 residential units, structured parking, and two apartment buildings joining the county’s 4D Affordable Housing Program to preserve 76 affordable units. Construction is scheduled to start by year-end and finish near the end of 2027. KROC
- ➤ From May 19 through June 1, law enforcement has increased patrols to ensure drivers and passengers buckle up, with a $140 fine for non-compliance. The campaign aims to protect everyone on the road during the busy travel season from Memorial Day through Labor Day — a time when more people will be driving. KTTC
- ➤ Rochester City Council approved a design to rebuild the busy intersection of Hwy. 14 and South Broadway on a 4-3 vote Monday night. The $19.6 million project, with $5.7 million for the city, will reduce medians, add a second left turn for Hwy. 14 traffic and lower the South Broadway speed limit from 40 mph to 30 mph + replace water mains, lights and a pedestrian path, with construction set to begin in summer 2027. - ➤ The Rochester City Council approved a new plan for the busy intersection at Hwy. 14 and South Broadway in a 4—3 vote Monday night. The project will start in summer and will redesign medians and turn lanes, replace nearly 1,500 feet of water main, update traffic and street lights, and lower the speed limit from 40 to 30 mph. KROC
