COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Rochester Mayor Kim Norton invites families to join a free bike parade during Rochesterfest on Saturday, June 27. Registered riders check in at 10:30 a.m. at the Edison Building Parking Lot and non-registered riders can arrive at 11 a.m. as the parade starts at 11:30 a.m.  KIMT
  • Camp Companion in Rochester is caring for six beagles rescued from Ridglan Farms, a facility that will cease operations on July 1. The rescue advises adopters to have an experienced dog and a fenced yard to help the beagles adjust to their new, loving homes.  KIMT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Rochester’s Cub West will close on May 30 and is clearing out its inventory with a 30% discount on all items except those in its liquor section. The store now operates from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. as it winds down after two years in business.  KROC-AM
  • McAlister's Deli opened in Rochester on Monday, May 10 near St. Mary's and Topper's east at Fresh Thyme. The new restaurant offers sandwiches, salads, soups, kids meals, and giant baked potatoes for dine-in, pickup, or delivery and is the chain's second location in Minnesota.  KROC-AM
  • Silver Lake Boat Rentals is opening for the 2026 season on Saturday, May 23 at 11:00 a.m. at Silver Lake — offering kayak and paddleboat rentals with varied weekday hours for a fun summer outing.  KROC-AM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Hundreds of RCTC graduates walked the stage yesterday at the Rochester regional sports center field house for the college’s 110th commencement ceremony. About 900 students earned degrees, and 215 achieved high academic honors.  KTTC
  • Luke Fenton, a nutrition services associate at Lincoln K-8, received the 2026 Hero Award on May 1 from the Minnesota School Nutrition Association. He was honored for greeting students by name and keeping a friendly, efficient cafeteria where meals are served on time + resources are managed to reduce waste.  KIMT

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is warning local farmers to secure loads and drive carefully on ag transport routes — laps in safety could risk spills that harm water, property, and health. Farmer Andrew Serio, who transports produce to Rochester weekly, reminded drivers to use proper equipment and drive defensively.  KTTC

HEALTH NEWS

  • The MDH is monitoring a local resident potentially exposed to hantavirus after the CDC sent details on Saturday. The patient is taking precautions by limiting public outings and wearing a mask (officials say the risk remains low).  KIMT
  • Rare Powassan virus cases are rising in Minnesota as officials report seven confirmed cases in 2025 across counties such as St. Louis and Hennepin — CDC advises using repellent, wearing light clothing, and doing tick checks after outdoor outings.  KROC-AM

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Local residents are advised to prevent painful no-see-um bites by using repellents with 20%+ DEET, wearing light-colored, tightly woven clothes, eliminating standing water, and adding fans to outdoor areas for extra protection.  KROC-AM
