  • On Saturday, the Salvation Army of Rochester collected 14 pallets of food for its 'Stamp Out Hunger' effort due to rising grocery prices and a higher need at local food shelves; they expected more pallets to arrive later that day. The organization encouraged food donations year-round to support those in need.  KTTC

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • At 7:25 a.m. today, the Rochester Fire Department went to a house fire at 312 36th Avenue Southeast where thick white smoke was seen near the roof with no visible flames—firefighters used fans to put out the blaze and search for occupants while one firefighter got a small hand injury and the home suffered heavy smoke damage that may lead to a total loss.  KROC

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hope Farms, a new nursery and garden center in Pine Island, opened on Saturday with 23,000 plants and over 2,000 species after 45 days of hard work. Owner Jonathan Zimmerman said the farm – named for his daughter – will hold a Mother’s Day sale all weekend and is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.  KTTC

CRIME NEWS

  • A Rochester man was sentenced to 65 months in prison after police found over 3200 fentanyl pills hidden in a torn mattress at his home—he admitted selling the drugs and was charged with first-degree drug sales and possession during controlled buys last summer.  KROC
  • Police raided an apartment on Commerce Drive Northwest on Wednesday and seized over $100,000 in cash, several hundred cannabis vape cartridges, a pistol with no serial number, and other items—20-year-old Koby Glen Heil has been charged with first-degree drug possession, possession of a firearm without a serial number, and third-degree sale of cannabis concentrate.  KROC
  • A 25-year-old man who is a frequent source of downtown complaints was charged with gross misdemeanor after police found him naked on a couch in a downtown lounge on April 24—Tarius James Seas was reported by a business and witnessed by employees—and he faces court action with three previous exposure convictions.  KROC-AM
