BUSINESS NEWS

  • Rochester biotechnology firm Cytotheryx, Inc. is set to receive nearly $500,000 in state funding — with $140,000 from the Job Creation Fund and $325,000 from the Minnesota Investment Fund — to support a $1.4 million renovation of its 18,000-square-foot facility that will create 22 jobs over the next three years.  KIMT

CRIME NEWS

  • Rochester police say former bookkeeper Lisa Nicole Faber is charged with felony counts after she allegedly stole nearly $10,000 from her ex employer and recorded theft transactions from May to October following her December termination—she is set to appear in court later this year—.  KROC-AM
  • Rochester police issued an arrest warrant for 23-year-old Wyatt Harley Dahle for assaulting a man who was found bleeding outside a Kwik Trip on April 19—he was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital where he received blood transfusions and nerve repair surgery.  KROC-AM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Dollar General Literacy Foundation announced $16,000 in grants for local nonprofit groups—$10,000 for Faribault Public Schools and $3,000 each for Rochester’s Dyslexia Institute of Minnesota and The Children’s Museum of Rochester—to help buy books, technology and materials within a 15-mile area.  KTTC

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, the U.S. Department of Education is discontinuing over $1 billion in federal funding for mental health support—funds many rely on—and Zumbro Valley Health Center psychotherapist Jazmin Portillo said the cuts may deepen barriers to care and add to stigma. She urged parents and caregivers to talk openly with their children about mental health to help ensure those in need receive support.  KTTC
