COMMUNITY NEWS

  • This Saturday, the Stamp Out Hunger food drive invites residents to donate nonperishable items by placing a bag beside their mailbox; a courier will transport the donations to The Salvation Army downtown+ apartment residents should label items left in mail rooms to avoid mix-ups.  KIMT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • A&L Greenhouse relocated from 7th Street to Broadway Ave for the 2026 season, offering Rochester residents a new spot near Caribou Coffee to shop for flowers, veggies and plants. Owners Annaleah and Landen source their stock from Hafner’s Greenhouse in Park Rapids.  KROC-AM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Today, Rochester celebrates 507 Day with local pride as Hy-Vee on 37th Street unveils a corn cob water tower cake — featuring a 3D printed base — while art walks, live music, and shopping events unfold across town.  KROC-AM
  • The 54th Gold Rush antique show is on at Graham Park today and runs through Sunday. Tickets cost $10 and hundreds of vendors will offer antiques, collectibles, lunar stones + Legos for young collectors.  KIMT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mayo High School students earned 149 honors on the national Spanish exam, winning 61 medals and 88 honorable mentions among over 83,000 test-takers. Spanish teachers prepared the students for scholarship opportunities (the exam is administered since 1957).  KIMT
  • Lake City teacher Marie Kruse earned state and national honors as the 2026 Outstanding Teacher for Minnesota Agriculture in the Classroom. Her work with Midwest Dairy Adopt-a-Calf and a school parade led to an expense-paid trip to the national Agriculture in the Classroom conference in Providence, Rhode Island in June.  KTTC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Olmsted County warns residents against a scam targeting them with emails from non-county addresses, stressing that official invoices only come from olmstedcounty.gov. Residents should call the county if they receive any suspicious messages.  KIMT
  • Rochester Public Utilities issued a 36-hour boil water advisory for northwest Rochester near 65th Street NW (including Overland Drive NW, Bandel Road NW, Boulder Ridge Drive NW) after a water main break caused low pressure; customers must boil water for one minute before drinking or cooking until tests confirm safety.  KTTC
  • MnDOT crews will begin crack sealing work on SE Minnesota highways on Monday, May 11 (to preserve road quality), leading to lane closures and slower traffic with flaggers directing vehicles. Work near Rochester International Airport and on key routes will continue until June.  KIMT

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Melanoma Research Foundation and Mayo Clinic host the Stay Out of the Sun Run 5K today to raise funds and awareness about melanoma and sun safety, featuring walking and running events, outdoor games, and a raffle at Cascade Lake Park — the opening ceremony starts at 6 p.m.  KTTC
  • Researchers at Mayo Clinic in Rochester have developed a blood test that maps a tumor's surrounding microenvironment to help doctors choose effective immunotherapy. The noninvasive liquid biopsy tested on over 1,300 patients offers promise for tailoring cancer treatments.  KIMT
