CRIME NEWS

  • A Chatfield woman pleaded guilty to a felony fleeing charge and one DWI count after a December chase in Rochester—she drove nearly 65 mph in a 30 mph zone and received five years’ probation plus a $500 fine.  KROC-AM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Rochester Fire Department held a ceremony Sunday afternoon to honor fallen firefighters, including Captain Peter Mackey, Firefighter Stanley O’Brien, Engine Driver Ambrose Riley, Firefighter Otis Ondler & Firefighter Adam Finseth, a native who served with Burnsville Fire Department. The event marked National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend and featured the 5-5-5 bell ringing tradition as a tribute to their sacrifice.  KTTC
  • MnDOT will begin resurfacing Hwy 14 today from Hwy 52 to Crossroads Dr. Southwest and from 3rd Ave. Southeast to Marion Rd. Southeast, with periodic lane closures that may delay drivers. The work is expected to finish by August 4—business access will be maintained throughout the project.  KROC
  • Olmsted County Attorney Michael Walters said asset forfeiture stops criminals from keeping property used in crimes, as set by Minnesota Statute 609.5315. In 2023, Rochester police seized over $23,000 mostly in cash from drug cases, and money from auctioned assets is used to buy equipment — new state laws in 2021 and 2024 increased oversight.  KIMT
