- ➤ Starting Saturday, Local News Live will air on KTTC from 6 a.m. to 7 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday — the show will deliver the morning news from local journalists and will still be available live on the KTTC Newscasts channel. KTTC
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Rochester man was charged with carjacking a Lyft driver in Stewartville on April 4—he left the vehicle after a $60 fare dispute led to a violent altercation where the rider grabbed the driver’s neck and hit him before fleeing the scene. KROC-AM
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The National Weather Service in La Crosse warned that severe storms with large hail, damaging winds, and possible tornadoes are expected to impact central and southeast Minnesota including Rochester. Storms are set to develop between 6 p.m. and midnight today — residents should stay alert and be ready to take shelter if warnings are issued. KROC-AM
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Minnesota legislature is working to finish a budget in the next three weeks before adjourning on May 19—I lawmakers increased floor sessions and plan weekend meetings to avoid a special session. KTTC
- ➤ The City of Rochester is beginning construction on the Link Bus Rapid Transit project and will host public information sessions online and at the Rochester Public Library today. The virtual session runs from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. and the in-person session from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.—residents will learn background details and upcoming schedules. KTTC
- ➤ Officials at Rochester's MnDOT District Six headquarters held a memorial service to honor 36 MnDOT workers and 16 contractors who died on duty. They stressed driver caution in work zones and announced plans for new 'State Law Move Over' stickers (a safety measure for high-speed areas). KIMT
- ➤ Rochester Parks and Recreation is urging residents to join Slow Mow Summer to promote a more sustainable lawn care routine. The program will take effect in May and asks residents to keep grass below 12 inches by managing weeds, with a free 12 by 18 yard sign available at City Hall (Parks and Rec Office). KIMT
