- ➤ Madalyn Francine Steinkamp, an 18-year-old from Byron, was charged with felony criminal vehicular operation in a downtown Rochester hit and run that injured an electric scooter rider with likely fractures in his right leg—she was arraigned in Olmsted County Court today after surveillance video linked her grey Dodge Dart to the collision. - ➤ Tyler Nicolaus Paananen-Berneche, 31, pleaded guilty to a first-degree property damage charge from the April 3 burglary at the Rochester VFW — his case was one of 44 linked to an alleged organized Minneota burglary operation and he faces a 21-month prison sentence pending sentencing. KROC
- ➤ Olmsted County Court records show that a 59-year-old woman from Mazeppa admitted to draining over $178,000 from a Rochester memory care resident’s account over five years and agreed to five years probation & over $184,000 in restitution to remove her conviction if she completes probation. KROC

- ➤ Rochester marked Earth Day 2025 as a reminder of its commitment to a cleaner environment. Rochester Public Utilities aims to achieve 100% net renewable energy by 2030 and will host a 'Plug into the Future' workshop series — featuring a $150 e-bike rebate, an electric lawn equipment rebate, Bike to Work Day on May 16, and the EarthFest Expo on May 3 — to help residents lower carbon emissions. - ➤ Mayo Clinic’s expansion already limits 2nd St. Southwest to one lane each way for utility work between Civic Center Dr. Southeast and 2nd Ave. Southwest. Starting May 13, the street from 4th Ave. to 6th Ave. will be closed for a pedestrian tunnel—set to reopen by early 2026. KROC
- ➤ Starting May 13, downtown Rochester’s 2nd St. Southwest will be closed between 4th and 6th Aves to construct a pedestrian tunnel for Mayo Clinic’s expansion—utility work already reduced the street lanes and it will reopen sometime during the first three months of 2026. KROC-AM
- ➤ On Tuesday, 42 new Minnesota State Patrol troopers received their badges at the 70th academy graduation held at Camp Ripley. They trained for 14 weeks in crash investigations, de-escalation, and traffic law — and they will complete additional training at the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension before starting solo patrols.
