COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Little Thistle Brewing in Rochester will host summer Thistle Thursday fundraisers to support local non-profits — starting with a May 7 event for Rochester PRIDESpecial and continuing with sessions on May 22, May 28, June 4, June 11 and June 18 at its outdoor venue.  KROC-AM
  • After Friday’s EF-2 tornado hit Marion Township, Marion Road Christian Church provided disaster relief by collecting donations and serving meals — distributing household supplies to residents, and the church raised thousands while holding donations until rebuilding begins.  KTTC

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Cleanup is underway in Red Wing after a barge spilled between 3,000 and 3,500 gallons of crude corn oil into the Mississippi River around noon on Monday (no public risk has been reported) as ADM crews and Clean Harbors work to contain and remove the oil.  KROC-AM

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sen. Bernie Sanders and Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan will speak at a rally at John Marshall High School on May 2, with doors opening at 3:30 p.m. and the program starting at 5 p.m.—attendees must RSVP and follow event item restrictions.  KROC-AM
  • The City of Rochester will begin a road resurfacing project in 10 neighborhoods on April 27, with yellow "NO PARKING THIS SIDE" signs posted from April 24. Work will continue until June 23 — residents are advised to use alternate routes during construction.  KIMT
  • Construction resumed this spring at Rochester International Airport to extend Runway 3 and Taxiway B with a $80 million project that adds 1,647 feet to create an 8,453-ft runway. The federally, state & locally funded work does not affect passengers and will end in fall 2027.  KTTC
