COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Leadership Greater Rochester Class of 2024 has raised $40,000 to install new Communication Stations that help children who are nonverbal, disabled or hearing impaired communicate using icons and pictures. The boards are set up in local playgrounds, parks and schools such as Cascade Lake, Silver Lake and Oxbow Park — more boards will be installed next year. KIMT
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ The Rochester Police Department issued a renewed call today for information on two unsolved cold case murders—41-year-old Bobby Volgmann, found beaten in a northwest apartment on April 16, 2020, and 27-year-old April Sorensen, who was strangled and stabbed in a northwest home on April 17, 2007—with a $25,000 reward offered for any leads. - ➤ A Rochester man pleaded guilty to concealing a woman's body in a rural Olmsted County field—he provided controlled substances that led to her 2022 death and will be sentenced on July 7. KTTC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Olmsted County Board of Commissioners voted on appointing an interim county attorney on April 15 after reviewing applications and conducting interviews— the new appointee will take office on April 21 to serve out the remainder of the term following Mark Ostrem’s retirement. KROC
- ➤ Michael Walters was named Olmsted County Attorney and will be sworn in on April 21 to replace retiring Mark Ostrem—he will serve until January 5 and face an election for a new term in November 2026. KTTC
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Rochester teen Konner Repp has been at Mayo Clinic since January 7 waiting for a heart transplant for his single ventricle defect — he has now been hospitalized for 98 days and relies on a PICC line and continuous medication. His mother said doctors expect his wait to last six to nine months and his family trades weeks to be by his side — showing their strong support. KIMT
