COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Dozens of community members attended a workshop hosted by the Rochester NAACP and Mayo Clinic AD MERG to learn financial literacy and how to build personal wealth — experts including realtors, lenders, and a loan officer stressed that local resources can open doors to homeownership. The NAACP said more events will be held to address economic disparity.  KTTC

BUSINESS NEWS

  • 1,800 union members at Mayo Clinic Saint Marys celebrated a new three-year contract reached after more than a year of talks—gaining wage increases up to 41%, shift differentials, full back pay, and a new overtime cap—and marked a major win for the workers.  KTTC

CRIME NEWS

  • Rochester police charged 44-year-old Christina Marie Sievert from Holman, WI with motor vehicle theft and first-degree property damage—charges filed after she allegedly stole a car left running outside a bar on North Broadway Ave on February 16 and then crashed it into a parked vehicle, causing over $5,600 in damages.  KROC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • MnDOT announced that Hwy.42 near Eyota will close at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15 for railroad crossing repairs and reopen at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 16. Traffic will detour via Hwy.14 then Olmsted County Rd.7, and Canadian Pacific Railway crews will conduct the work.  KROC
  • A draft report to be presented to the Rochester City Council on Monday recommends opening small pilot satellite branches in growth zones and renovating the downtown library for improved access and meeting spaces. The report—developed from a master plan process that began last fall—also advises reinstating curbside pickup and expanding bookmobile service, with final recommendations to be released in July.  KROC-AM
  • Highway 52 is now reopened southeast of Rochester after construction crews demolished the eastbound I-90 bridge, according to MnDOT—motorists using southbound Highway 52 can reach the eastbound on-ramp from Rochester, while those traveling further south into Marion must use a detour via Eyota and Olmsted County Road 7 until November.  KTTC
