CRIME NEWS

  • A 24-year-old Rochester woman, Sesen Tesfay, was sentenced for breaking into Peace United Church of Christ on April 18th and starting a fire that caused about $4 million in damage; she pleaded guilty to first-degree arson and received 180 days in jail, 200 hours of community work, five years of probation, and must pay $2,500 in restitution.  KIMT
  • 26-year-old Joseph Wesley Simmons Junior, arrested about a year ago for his role in a drive-by shooting at the intersection of 41st Street and East Frontage Road NW, was sentenced Tuesday to five years of probation and 50 hours of community work service—he entered a plea agreement after admitting a second-degree assault charge.  KROC
  • Rochester man Divaunte Young (24) was convicted by a federal jury for illegally possessing a firearm as a felon after he brandished a handgun during a ride dispute and DNA evidence linked him to the weapon, officials said.  KTTC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Sgt. Troy Christianson from the Minnesota State Patrol warned that as more motorcyclists take to the roads in warmer weather, four fatalities have already been reported this early season compared to one last March. He advised riders to wait until roads are clear of debris, sand, and snow and to wear DOT-approved helmets and proper gear—measures that can reduce crashes involving other vehicles.  KTTC
  • Starting April 6, Rochester Public Transit will move the Downtown Transit Center to Central Park, shift stops along 2nd Street, update Route 412, and expand its on-demand service due to downtown construction—printed schedules will be available beginning March 31 and the Transit app will update on April 6—with these changes set to continue through summer 2026.  KIMT
