  • Olmsted County was named Minnesota’s second best place to live for 2026 based on a Niche ranking that scored its public schools, homeownership, and local amenities — Hennepin County ranked first.  KROC-AM
  • Mayor Kim Norton joined youth volunteers at Channel One Regional Food Bank on Thursday night to pack 300 food boxes to help ease rising food insecurity — the event featured groups from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and the Mayor’s Youth Committee.  KIMT

  • Rochester’s Kwik Trip offers the $4.99 Buddy Box loaded with chicken wings, potato wedges, and a drink+ a sauce cup holder for easy car dining as part of a chicken promotion that runs through May 4 and features a tour with a new Chevy Traverse.  KROC
  • Cafe Steam opened its fourth spot on 2nd Street on Tuesday, Mar. 17 in a former Caribou Coffee location, featuring a mural (painted by a barista) that adds extra charm for regulars. Local coffee lovers now have another inviting space to enjoy their favorite brew.  KROC-AM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Rochester Civic Theatre will stage a fresh, witty take on Pride and Prejudice, directed by Jaclyn June Johnson and adapted by Kate Hamill. Performances run April 2 through April 12 with 7 p.m. evening shows and matinees on April 4 and April 12, plus an ASL-adapted performance on April 9.  KIMT

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Middle and high school students from Stewartville visited Great Planes Aviation on Thursday to get hands-on aviation lessons — they sat in planes and tried a flight simulator with guidance from Great Planes and the Minnesota Department of Transportation.  KTTC

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The MN DNR warns Rochester area residents to secure food as bears begin emerging from hibernation, urging homeowners to clean grills & store garbage to reduce bear encounters. Officials note that sightings may increase as temperatures warm from mid-April onward.  KTTC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Dr. Michael Joyner filed a motion for a new trial against Mayo Clinic after a February ruling, asking for an extension to file while contesting a $207K legal cost request; the court is expected to rule on his motion by June 8.  KROC-AM
  • Rochester Public Transit announced spring service changes on Thursday that will take effect on Apr. 26. The updates include consolidations for Routes 101 and 206 and Routes 409 and 418 + weekend schedule changes for Routes 21-26.  KTTC

HEALTH NEWS

  • Mayo Clinic experts found that combining immunotherapy (atezolizumab) with chemotherapy after surgery lowered the risk of recurrence and death by 50% for patients with dMMR stage 3 colon cancer. The new treatment is now recommended in updated clinical guidelines to benefit younger patients.  KIMT
  • Mayo Clinic researchers in Rochester found that sleep data from wearables helped predict patient engagement in a 12-week pulmonary rehabilitation program for COPD — the study suggests that combining machine learning with sleep measures may improve personalized care plans.  KIMT
