COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Mayo Clinic announced the finalists in its Name the Crane contest, drawing nearly 2,000 submissions from staff, patients + local students. Voting remains open until March 30 and winning names will be revealed this spring.  KIMT

BUSINESS NEWS

  • The popular discount chain Ollie's Bargain Outlet opened its first Minnesota location in Austin today and is planning additional stores across the state — with expansion efforts including a potential spot in Rochester.  KROC-AM
  • Target has announced permanent price cuts on over 3,000 spring items with discounts of 5% to 20% & will remodel over 600 stores including a revamped Beauty Studio and a new Fun101 section outside Target North. Price reductions start this month and continue through spring.  KROC-AM

CULTURE NEWS

  • Thursdays Downtown announced Youth Booths that let teens aged 12-18 sell handmade items downtown at 1st Ave SW and Peace Plaza. Applications are open until Apr. 6 and selected vendors will be notified by May 1 ahead of the festival kickoff on June 11.  KROC-AM

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for the area from midnight tonight to 10 a.m. tomorrow with gusts reaching 65 mph. Utility crews (cautiously avoiding downed lines) are preparing for outages as a winter storm brings heavy snow from 7 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Monday.  KROC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Secretary of State Steve Simon will visit Mayo High School today to speak with social studies students about the state's voter pre-registration law for 16- and 17-year-olds (presentation from 12:55 p.m. to 1:40 p.m.).  KTTC
  • Rochester is preparing for a major snowstorm later this weekend with forecasts of 8 to 12 inches of snow and possibly more; city crews will deploy 32 plow trucks (with additional equipment) to clear over 500 miles of roads and prioritize main routes and schools.  KROC-AM
  • Rochester Public Utilities reported outages today in Southeast Rochester near 12th Street Southeast and Broadway Avenue South. The utility is updating its outage map to keep customers informed.  KTTC
