COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Rochester Downtown Alliance has opened vendor applications for the 2026 Thursdays Downtown season, a summer event on 1st Avenue SW and Peace Plaza featuring live music and local food, and youth vendors (ages 12 to 18) may apply by April 6 while all applications close April 10. KIMT
- ➤ Quarry Hill Nature Center invites families to enjoy a spring-like weekend with a bird walk hosted by the Zumbro Valley Audubon Society today and a bird banding event Sunday, promoting a closer look at returning migratory birds (including geese and ducks) and local wildlife. KTTC
- ➤ The Rochester Raiders Booster Club is hosting a fundraiser today at the Eagles Club to support its floor hockey, soccer and softball teams serving students with disabilities. The event starts at 8:30 a.m. with a pancake breakfast and auction from local donors (Bart’s Cookies, Rochester Athletic Club, and others). KTTC
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A new study by the Economic Policy Institute shows that a family of four (two adults and two children) in Rochester needs about $138,000 annually to cover expenses, higher than the $135,000 estimated for Twin Cities families. Higher healthcare costs are a major factor in Rochester’s increased expense. KTTC
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources has set rules for open water season fishing on Mille Lacs Lake so anglers can keep three walleye each day. Walleyes must be 17 inches or greater (only one fish may exceed 20 inches) and the regulations run from May 9 through November 30. KROC-AM
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Feb. 28, road crews pretreated streets with a salt-brine solution (leaving visible stripes) to reduce ice buildup during a snow advisory that brought up to 4 inches of snowfall; MnDOT and the city worked together to keep roads safe for motorists. KROC-AM
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Willow Pet Hospital opened Feb. 25 in the former BluePearl location and already treated a limping puppy from Paws and Claws (open Mon-Fri, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). KROC-AM
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ On Friday, the Vikings restructured three contracts and saw center Ryan Kelly retire — a move aimed at achieving cap compliance ahead of the new league year starting next Wednesday. The team remains about $5 million over the salary cap with more adjustments expected. KROC-AM
