COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Residents are invited to share ideas to improve the Regional Sports Center for RCTC students and community users through open houses and an online survey. Feedback sessions will be held in person on March 11, 24, and 25 and virtually on March 25 and 27 (at 851 30 Ave SE).  KTTC

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Minnesota rose 12.9 cents this week to an average of $2.71, driven by higher crude oil costs plus geopolitical tensions. The national average climbed 1.2 cents to $2.88, affecting drivers statewide.  KROC-AM

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Century High School will host its 26th annual City Cup chess tournament on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in its north cafeteria — the Varsity Silver team, the defending champion, aims to retain the title before advancing to the state championship on March 7.  KTTC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Freeborn Mower Electric Cooperative, MiEnergy Cooperative + People’s Energy Cooperative will launch a peak energy alert today at 7 a.m. for Dual Fuel Program members to help manage high grid demand. Members should set heating systems to at least 68 degrees + postpone appliance use until after 11 a.m.  KIMT

HEALTH NEWS

  • A Mayo Clinic study shows the brain may treat seizures like memories, and researchers reviewed recordings from 11 people with epilepsy. The study, published in the Journal of Neuroscience, may guide treatments that target seizure networks during the deep sleep phase.  KIMT
  • Mayo Clinic Platform announced a 10-year data-sharing partnership with Mercy today in Rochester. Researchers will use de-identified data from over 15.2 million patients + billions of images, lab results, and clinical notes to improve diagnosis and care.  KIMT

SPORTS NEWS

  • Yesterday, the Rochester Nordic Ski Team hosted its annual end-of-season Olympics at Gamehaven with about 70 skiers competing in seven ski events, including a blindfold race + one-ski race and a ski sled pull. The event has been a community tradition for over 20 years and teaches kids a lifetime sport.  KTTC
